Our main purpose was to help Saipan Cares for Animals, but after Ms. Elizabeth, the president of SCA told us the situation of the Tinian shelter, we were greatly saddened to hear that our neighboring islands shelter is facing a much worse situation. We then decided to fund raise for them then help Saipan Cares for Animals.

Our first Make a difference fundraiser was a success. We sold food and refreshers during Cultural Day at our school and fortunately, we sold out everything. However, our funds weren’t sufficient enough to supply them with necessities. My partner and I decided to continue this project for we want to make a bigger difference to our community animals lives.

If I were to do this again next year, I would have the same mindset to WORK HARD and to continue to supply them with money donations. I know that money doesn’t reciprocate so well around this type of organizations. We live in a small island and money is hard earned especially with this type of economy. I can say that our main sources of income are the tourists. So donating wouldn’t really be part of our list especially if we just live paycheck by paycheck.

I will for sure always help animals that is because they have a soft spot in my heart. I think that they are vulnerable to many things and they have no power to reject something that they don’t like. Pit bulls for example are forced to fight in illegal dog fighting rings. I own a pit bull and I always ask him “what made you a fighter?” I honestly think that they are lovely and not made to be a fighter. All animals are vulnerable, for they have no say in the world we live. I will continue and make time for this project until we reach our goal.

Above is a map to SCA. You can help them by donating whatever you think can satisfy their needs. They are open to many volunteers that are willing to help them. If you still don't understand what we see in animals, see for yourself and visit them!

We haven’t accomplished anything this week. We are still trying to get a response from Ms. Elizabeth about the situation in Tinian. Lack of communication about the project is our biggest problem. Throughout this week I wasn’t active in making more ideas because I was on strong medications that made me drowsy all the time. I face full responsibility on not making this week work because of my personal reasons and hopefully in the future we will make more progress. After all the exams and project, I will make this my top priority because I want to succeed in making an actual difference in these animals’ home and future. Me and my partner actually plan to make our organization last a bit longer than “just” a project for Geometry. My next action is to find out a response from Ms. Elizabeth about the situation in Tinian and make more fundraisers to meet our goal.

We haven’t accomplished anything for this week. This week was prom week which has been a really busy week and our mentor went to Tinian to see the situation there so we weren’t able to collaborate with her with future fundraisers. Same as always, time will always be my biggest challenger because I can’t fit everything in a day. I have no idea how some people can manage their time so well. I wish to obtain that type of skill and responsibility after this Make a Difference Project. My skills haven’t improved at all over the past week. I believe in my other blogs I mentioned that I want to have great time management skill and I am currently pushing myself to overcome my poor skills and laziness. Looking at our proposal for this project, we aren’t on track for on-time delivery. There has been many delays in our schedule but we wish to continue this project till the end of the school year or more. My next action is to find out about the situation on Tinian so we can set our own goal.

My partner and I fund raised during our Cultural Day event for Saipan Cares for animals. It was stressful putting everything together because we only had three days to prepare our things that we will need. Planning on what we would sell was the biggest challenge for me because there are other booths that had the money and ideas that were all put together to make their own booth successful. We  had to focus on our budget for this event due to no funding at all. We both agreed on selling corn dogs because it was affordable and easier to cook, however we weren't aware that NHS  would be selling  corn dogs too! It was too late to change so we just went with it. Surprisingly, our  booth was sold out and we made a total of $158.00. My next action is to continue to send out solicitation letters and make more plans for future fundraisers to  increase our funding.

Ms. Elizabeth, the president of Saipan Cares for Animals, approved our solicitation letters! Mr. Aguon and Stuco approved me and my partner’s idea of selling in Cultural day as a fundraiser. This week has been going as planned for us despite our busy schedules. Although the sending out solicitation letters has been held back this couple of weeks due to the delay of approving the solicitation letters. Planning and listing the ideas of what to sell for Cultural Day is stressful because we don’t know what the people want to buy.  My skill in particular of being able to handle time wisely has improved, I was able to turn in all my work but also focus on this project.  My next action is to look for a tent, table, and to make a poster for our booth in Cultural Day and also send out the solicitation letters. Hopefully everything will turn out to be successful.

We met with Ms. Elizabeth this past Tuesday and she told us the situation of Saipan Cares For Animals and the Tinian clinic. The situation of the Tinian Clinic is horrifying and they are need of help. The place is overcrowded with dogs and the way they put down dogs is inhumane* but they can’t do anything about it because they have no funds. Ms. Elizabeth was trained by Humane International to do the right to put down dogs. We as a group want to focus more on funding for Tinian Clinic because they are in a problematic situation. We told her our idea of selling on Cultural day to fund raise and we got it approved already by Mr. Aguon. Ms. Elizabeth told us to revise our solicitation letter because there were some mistakes on the names and our confusion between the Animal Shelter (Government) and Saipan Cares for Animals (Private non-profit organization). My next action is to send out the revised solicitation letter once it gets approved by her.

*Ms. Elizabeth heard "rumors" about the Tinian Clinic so she will go there to check

As of now, we haven’t accomplished anything yet. Our progress is really slow since Saipan Cares For Animals and Ms. Elizabeth who has been helping us has been busy this past week. Communication between them and us has been really draggy and getting a reply from them takes days. Challenges in time again has been a huge hindrance for us because my partner has her own personal agenda to finish and I am busy with me trying to get in the Air Force. Through the process, I learned that it is best to set priorities first so our schedule isn’t scattered all over. We aren’t on time with our schedule which is to send out solicitation letters. We sent a copy to Ms. Elizabeth but she disapproved it because of some minor mistakes. My next action is to fix those mistakes and hopefully get back on track.
